Alice Farnham
Alice Farnham was born in Stratford-on-Avon and began her career as an Organist, holding scholarships
at St. Hugh's College, Oxford and St. Thomas Church Fifth Avenue. She trained as a conductor at the St.
Petersburg State Conservatoire from 1997–2000 with Ilya Musin.
She has conducted Falstaff with Grange Park Opera Festival, Haydn’s
Le Pescatrice for Bampton Classical Opera, A
Midsummer Night's Dream with English Touring Opera, I Capuleti e I
Montecchi with Pimlico Opera, Die Zauberflöte
European Chamber Opera, Carmen with London City Opera (USA Tour) and Il Barbiere
di Siviglia British Youth Opera.
From 2001 to 2004 she was Chorus Master and Assistant Conductor at Gothenburg Opera, and since 2004 she
has worked Guest Music Staff at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden and will be Assistant Conductor on Il Turco in Italia in 2010. Alice was Chorus Master at Opera Holland Park
from 2006 to 2007.
Equally at home conducting ballet, she is a regular Guest Conductor at Birmingham Royal Ballet since
2008. She has conducted the Royal Ballet, Covent Garden, English National Ballet, and the Rambert Dance
Company.
Alice has conducted many orchestras in Russia including the St Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra and
from 2004-2007 she was Artistic Director of the Borås Symphony Orchestra, Sweden, and recently conducted
the Brighton Philharmonic. Future engagements include a national tour of Denmark with the Royal Danish
Ballet.
