Frequently Asked Questions
How do I advertise in the Chandos concert programmes?
We have a current
advertising rate card (PDF) which gives you details. Please contact Linda Fowler on 01299
266657 (daytime only). Pre-designed artworks should be high-res PDF documents and sent to programmes@chandos.org.uk.
How can I support Chandos?
We have the Friends of Chandos which allows non-players to become involved with the
orchestra.
How can I find out about the next Workshop?
Look at the Concerts page and then
select the year that you want. The workshops are listed underneath the concert schedule. Workshop schedules
appear on the Information page.
How can I be notified of Chandos Concerts?
There are basically two methods for being notified of Chandos events:
Subscribe to our iCal feed. This can be done either:
via your Web browser at address http://www.icalx.com/html/chandos/day.php?cal=Chandos,
or via your iCal program if you have an Apple Mac by subscribing to the following address
webcal://icalx.com/public/chandos/Chandos.ics
Subscribe to our RSS news feed. This can be done by using a RSS news feed application such as
Shrook for the Mac and entering the address: http://www.chandos.org.uk/ch-1/news.rss. You
also click the RSS feed button at the bottom left of the Chandos Web page.

Help! — The pages do not display properly on my
browser.
I have tried to make sure that the pages display on most browsers but sometimes things can look a little
strange. I have tried Firefox, Safari, Camino, Opera, some varieties of Internet Explorer and even iCab
which all seem to work ok. However there will always be problems — usually from Microsoft
Explorer (sigh) — so let me know and I will try and fix it.
How do I print pages on the Chandos web site without the buttons being
printed?
Use the TEXT button at the bottom left of the page and then print that page.
RSS — this allows you to receive the news page in RSS
format for displaying by an RSS viewer (I use Shrook on the Mac),
XML — this allows you to get the contents of the page
alone in XML format for further processing if you wish locally on your computer,
TEXT — when you want to print a page from the browser
use this button to get the text by itself: no menus, no buttons etc. ,
Technical Trivia
For those who are interested this site is built on a system called Paloose, which is a
subset of the Cocoon
system, but written in PHP5 rather than Java. It all makes it much easier to configure on different
browsers; for example; look at this site using the iPhone.
I would have greatly prefered to have used Cocoon but the problem is finding a
hosting service to provide Tomcat/Cocoon at a reasonable cost. Transporting the entire system onto a
Cocoon based server would be easy and remains an option in the future.
